BEIJING, June 16 (Reuters) - A court in far western China sentenced three people to death on Monday for their roles in an October attack on the edge of Beijing's Tiananmen Square, state television said, an incident blamed by the government on Islamist militants.

One other person got life in jail, and four others received sentences ranging from five to 20 years in jail, state television said on its official microblog.

Two people were killed and 40 injured when a car ploughed into a crowd at the northern edge of Tiananmen, while the three people in the car also died. (Reporting by Ben Blanchard and Li Hui)
