Aid workers slaughtered in Afghanistan

Two Finnish aid workers shot dead Thursday in western Afghanistan.

Two gunmen on a motorbike approached the aid workers' taxi in Herat and opened fire.

(SOUNDBITE) ( Dari) DOCTOR AT HERAT HOSPITAL, MOHAMMAD RAFIQ SHERZAI SAYING:

"The woman came to shop in the city with her colleague. Unknown gunmen on a motorbike opened fired and killed them while they were inside a taxi."

Finland's foreign ministry said the women were Finnish. The Afghan Interior Ministry said the two worked for International Assistance Mission, a Christian group that has worked in Afghanistan since 1966.
