Blast hits top meeting of Islamist group in Syria-monitor

BEIRUT, Sept 9 (Reuters) - A number of people were killed or wounded by an explosion at a meeting of leaders of an Islamist insurgent group in Syria on Tuesday, according to a group that monitors violence in the Syrian civil war.

The leader of the Ahrar al-Sham group, Hassan Aboud, was at the gathering in the northwestern province of Idlib, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. Syrian state TV reported that he had been killed. (Writing by Tom Perry; Editing by Larry King)
