In response to the urgent humanitarian crisis involving Rohingya and Bengali migrants, Muslim Hands is one of the first NGO’s on the ground distributing vital emergency relief to hundreds of people staying in temporary shelters in Aceh Province, Indonesia.
In the last three years alone, 120,000 Rohingya Muslims have been forced to leave Myanmar, where they face discrimination and persecution. Now, thousands have been left stranded at sea by traffickers.
Muslim Hands has been active within Myanmar since 2008, when a cyclone devastated large parts of the country. Since then we have carried out food distribution, built shelters and provided clean water and sanitation.
Khairul Rahmi, Muslim Hands Indonesia Country Director describes the urgency of the situation, "Some of the children escaped from the country without their parents. They do not know where their parents are now, whether they are still alive or not."
Our work so far has only been possible because of the support of our donors, but with rescue operations underway to find the thousands of people still stranded at sea, Muslim Hands is committed to providing ongoing relief to the migrants.
