Earlier this month, world leaders met in Addis Ababa to decide how to fund the next generation of development goals, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Financing for Development conference was heralded as a healthy turn from aid to investment and cemented the growing trend of blending different types of financing to spur development.
But though these financing collaborations hold promise to unlock much-needed dollars to generate social, economic, and environmental impact, it’s not always clear what they should look like in practice.
