Every person on every continent has been affected by COVID-19. But as the world reels from the devastation caused by this unprecedented crisis, how much is known and documented about the grave and far-reaching repercussions on the lives and livelihoods of millions of people?
In partnership with Omidyar Network, the Thomson Reuters Foundation launched a photo competition last year aimed at capturing the human impact of the pandemic. This was part of a larger project titled ‘COVID-19: The Bigger Picture’.
The competition was open to anyone with a passion for turning the lens on the real lives behind the headlines, and an ability to capture the most powerful images of the pandemic’s impact on everyday people.
As part of the prize, each winner partnered with the Thomson Reuters Foundation news team to develop and produce an exclusive photo essay highlighting the impact of COVID-19 on livelihoods in their country. These photo essays were shared via the Foundation’s global distribution network.
