Bujumbura, 5 December 2012 ? Bloodshed, destruction and massive population displacement continues to terrorise the population of Masisi, a mineral rich area in North Kivu, eastern Congo. At least 28 people were killed in Masisi since 29 November, as a consequence of on-going fighting between rival armed groups.

DRC Crisis: Home sweet home? Maybe not...
The recent escalation of the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes and find shelter in camps in and around the city of Goma in North Kivu province. They bring with them whatever they can carry and set up their tents on terrain which can best be described as uninhabitable. It is basically rocks, stones and old lava, the result of volcanic activity from Nyragongo volcano. It looks like a construction site.
- World must do more to reach people in need
Political constraints and security risks are hampering the humanitarian effort to reach millions of people in need. Lack of access has prevented the delivery of assistance to thousands of people in need of aid in Syria. In Congo the needs of vulnerable people are increasing, but so is donor fatigue. ? The world must do more to reach people in need of relief. Humanitarian aid should be given when and where it is needed, and not be tied to geopolitical objectives, says Secretary General of NRC, Elisabeth Rasmusson, at the opening of milestone conference in Brussels 4th December
