Upcoming elections will be a defining moment for Kenya
Kenya has suffered periodic bouts of political conflict since multi-party elections were introduced in 1992. The most recent disturbances in 2007 left 1,500 dead, and almost 300,000 displaced. It was one of the darkest periods in the country's post-colonial history. With fresh elections tentatively scheduled for March 2013 (they could be held as early as December, this year), the world's attention will be focused on Kenya.
