On World Humanitarian Day, WFP Honours Work Of Colleagues On Frontlines Of Hunger
From WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin ROME – In 2003, the world mourned when 22 people lost their lives in an attack on the United Nations office in Baghdad, Iraq. Ten years later, we still mourn all too often for humanitarian workers killed in the line of duty. Many more are injured, detained, kidnapped, traumatized and otherwise prevented from carrying out their life-saving work.
Sudan: Vital aid reaches 12,000 flood victims
Khartoum/Geneva (ICRC) – Recent flash floods and heavy rains, which fell at the beginning of August, have left many people homeless. The Sudanese Red Crescent Society, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has provided vital household essentials and shelter items to 12,000 severely affected people in Khartoum State, Dongola region and Wadi Halfa.
